PORTUGAL, AGOSTO 2007 - 2ª PARTE / PART 2

Hacía mucho calor, y después fuimos a la playa de Ericeira. No me bañé porque las olas eran muy altas y según mami, el agua estaba helada.

It was very hot, and so then we went to the beach of Ericeira. I did not take a bath because there were quite high waves, and water was cold (at least it's what mum said).

O sea que me dediqué a posar como una modelo :)

So what I did was posing like a top model :)

Volviendo de nuestra excursión a Mafra, Sobreiro y Ericeira, nos quedó tiempo libre. Aprovechamos para ir a ver lo más nuevo de Lisboa: los terrenos donde se celebró la Expo del 98, donde han hecho un centro comercial y jardines para pasear. Fuimos allí en teleférico. ¡Fue tan emocionante montar en el teleférico!

We had some free time after our daytrip to Mafra, Sobreiro and Ericeira. So we went to see the newest part of Lisbon: the places where the Expo 98 took place. Now they have built a shopping mall there, and also nice gardens. A cable car brought us there. It was so terrific to travel by cable car!

Óbidos es un pueblecito pintoresco con casitas blancas y edificios antiguos, rodeado por una muralla que se empezó a construir en tiempos de la Reconquista.

Óbidos is a small village full of local colour, with white houses and ancient buildings, surrounded by walls that were built during the Reconquest.

El castillo es genial, parece de Exin Castillos :D. Ahora es una "Pousada" (el equivalente portugués a nuestros paradores nacionales)

The castle is amazing, it looks like the castles you can build with Exin Castillos (a Spanish block construction game to build castles). Now it's a "Pousada" (a sort of historic hotel).

Alcobaça es un monasterio que empezaron a construir los monjes Cistercienses en el siglo XII. Mami dice que le recuerda a Santes Creus.

Alcobaça is a monastery that the Cister monks began to build in the 12th century. Mom says that it reminds her of Santes Creus (a monastery in Catalonia).

Esta es la fachada de la iglesia del monasterio de Alcobaça. Había mucha gente, aparte de los giris como nosotros, haciendo fotos en plan japo, había una boda de unos franceses (ya me dirás quién les mandaría casarse en Portugal)...

This is the façade of the church of Alcobaça monastery. It was crowded. Apart from lots of foreigners like us taking pictures like Japanese, there was a wedding of a french couple there (funny that they had decided to marry in Portugal).

También visitamos el pueblo de Nazaré, antes típico pueblo de pescadores, y ahora lleno de turistas por las playitas y por el pescado, que tiene fama de ser muy bueno. Mami y yo decimos: "Pescado, puaj puaj puajjjjj"

We also visited the village of Nazaré. Formerly it was a typical fishermen village and now it's full of tourists who go there for the beautiful beaches and for the fish, which has a good reputation for being very good. Mum and I, we say: "Fish, yuck yuck yuckkkkk"

Al día siguiente visitamos el monasterio de Batalha. Es precioso! Realmente se llama "Santa Maria Da Vitória" y lo mandó construir el rey Joao I para conmemorar la victoria portuguesa en una batalla que les llevó a la independencia de España. Menos mal que no son rencorosos, porque el 85% mínimo de los visitantes son españoles...

The day after we visited Batalha monastery. It's really wonderful! Its real name is Santa Maria Da Vitória and the king Joao I made built it in order to commemorate the Portuguese victory in a battle that led them to their independence from Spain. Luckily they are not resentful, because minimum 85% of the visitors are Spaniards.

This is a view of the beautiful gothic archs of the cloister, This style is called "Manueline" (late Portuguese gothic) and is very overelaborated.

Después fuimos a Fátima, pero no me entusiasmó demasiado tener que ir allí. Estaba todo lleno de gente y de tiendas que vendían objetos religiosos la mayoría "made in China"...

Then we went to Fátima, but I didn't like that much the idea of going there. It was crowded everywhere and it was full of shops selling religious objects, most of them "made in China"...

Antes de marcharnos de Portugal, volvimos a ir a Belem, y yo encontré esta Torre de Belem tamaño Blythe, una réplica en metal, que está delante de la de verdad ¿a que es mucho más adecuada para mí? ¡Yo la quiero! ¡Ojalá me la hubiera podido llevar a casa!

Before leaving Portugal, we went again to Belem, and I found this Belem Tower Blythe size, a metal replica that is situated in front of the real one. Isn't it more suitable for me? I want it! I wish I could have taken it back home with me!

PORTUGAL, AGOSTO 2007-  1ª PARTE / PART 1

¡Hola de nuevo!
Nuestro primer viaje de agosto de 2007 fue a Portugal. Hacía mucho calor. Empezamos el viaje en Lisboa. Aquí estoy delante del monasterio de los Jerónimos, una preciosidad gótica.

Hi again!
Our first trip in August 2007 was to Portugal. It was very hot. Our trip began in Lisbon. Here I am in front of the Jeronimos monastery, a gothic jewel.

Como podéis ver en este arco, la decoración de este monasterio es muy elaborada.

As you can see from this arch, the decoration of that monastery is very elaborated.

Este es el monumento a los descubridores portugueses que fueron a conquistar nuevas tierras. El de delante de todos es Enrique el Navegante.

This is the monument to the Portuguese discoverers who went to conquer new lands. The one in front is Enrique el Navegante (Henry the Navigator).

En Belem, la zona de los Jeronimos y del monumento a los descubridores también está esta bonita torre del siglo XVI, la Torre de Belem.

In Belem, apart from the Jeronimos monastery and the Monument to the Discoverers, there is also this beautiful tower from the 16th century, the Tower of Belem.

Esta es la catedral de Lisboa. A mí me parece más un castillo que una catedral. Para llegar hay que subir una cuesta que ¡bufff!

This is Lisbon cathedral. For me it looks more like a castle than like a cathedral. To get there we had to climb a slope that was quite tiring.

Esta es la vista que se ve desde el Miradouro de Santa Luzia, desde la catedral aún hay que subir más cuesta para llegar hasta aquí pero las vistas son preciosas.

This is the view that you can see from Santa Luzia viewpoint. From the cathedral you must climb even more to get there, but the views are amazing.

El segundo día fuimos a Queluz. Los jardines del palacio real de Queluz estaban en su mayoría cerrados por obras, pero lo que pudimos visitar era muy bonito.

The second day we went to Queluz. The gardens of the Royal Palace of Queluz were mostly closed for works, but what we could visit was very beautiful.

El palacio real de Queluz me recuerda a Versalles o a Aranjuez, es de la misma época (siglo XVIII).

The Royal Palace of Queluz reminds me to Versailles or Aranjuez, as it was built in the same period (18th century).

Después del palacio de Queluz, visitamos otro palacio, el palacio da Pena, en Sintra (un pueblo preciosísimo que os recomiendo).  Lo mandó construir un alemán que fue marido de una reina de Portugal y que era familia de Ludwig II ("el Rey Loco") y se inspiró en los famosos castillos de Baviera para tener una réplica en Portugal.

After the Royal Palace of Queluz, we visited another palace named Pena Palace. It's situated in Sintra (a wonderful village that I recommend you). A German married to a Portuguese queen made build it. That German was a relative of Ludwig II (the Mad King) and he was inspired in the famous castles of Bavaria to have a replica in Portugal.

It looks like a fairytale castle, doesn't it?

También en Sintra se encuentra la Quinta da Regaleira. Un señor rico la mandó construir a un arquitecto italiano. Como el señor parece ser que era masón y le gustaban las cosas esotéricas, la casa y los jardines están llenos de detalles esotéricos como pozos, grutas subterráneas etc. ¡Es genial!

In Sintra there is also a house named Quinta de Regaleira. A rich man asked an Italian architect to build it. It seems that the rich man was a mason and he liked esoteric things. So the house and the gardens are full of esoteric details like pits, subterranean grottos and so on. It's amazing!

El tercer día fuimos de excursión a Mafra, Sobreiro y Ericeira.
Al monasterio de Mafra le llaman "el Escorial Portugués". Un rey que no tenía hijos hizo la promesa de construir un convento aquí si su mujer le daba descendencia. Nació una niña y el rey mandó construir y construir, el convento se convirtió en monasterio y se le añadió un palacio, aunque los reyes apenas vivían en él. ¡Es realmente enoooooooorme !

On the third day we went on a daytrip to Mafra, Sobreiro and Ericeira.
Mafra monastery is called "the Portuguese Escorial" (- Escorial is a monastery in Spain, near Madrid - ). A king who did not have any children made a promise that he would build a convent there if his wife could give him a child. A baby girl was born, and the king gave orders to build the convent. Then the convent turned into monastery, and a palace was added, although the king and queen almost never lived here. It's really huuuuuuuuuuuuge!

En Sobreiro, un señor portugués quiso hacer la recreación de una aldea típica portuguesa, y construyó varias casas, la escuela, la herrería, la zapatería, la panadería, el molino... y también una parte en miniatura, ¿qué os parece esta casita de mi tamaño? Igual la alquilo para mis próximas vacaciones :D

In Sobreiro, a Portuguese man wanted to recreate a typical Portuguese village, and so he built several houses, the school, the blacksmith's house, the shoemaker's house, the bakery, the windmill... and also a part of it was built in miniature. What do you think of this house of my size? Maybe I will rent it for my next holidays :D

CASTILLA, DICIEMBRE 2006 - 2ª PARTE / PART 2

Al día siguiente tocaba Salamanca, una ciudad preciosa. Hacía solete, ¡¡¡¡bieeeeen!!!! Pero hacía un frío que pelaba...
Aquí podéis ver un cachito de la catedral.

The day after we went to Salamanca. The sun was shining, hoorray!!! But it was really cold...

Aquí me siento como una estudiante de otros tiempos, en el claustro del patio de las Escuelas Menores.

What? You wanted to compare me with that dumb there? Without any doubt, I am the prettiest and the most glamourous!!!! And besides, she is looking down at me, she's so envious at me... 

En la Plaza Mayor de Salamanca también habían puesto un arbolito de Navidad, por supuesto...

In the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca hey had also put a Christmas tree, of course...

El edificio más bonito de la Plaza Mayor es el ayuntamiento.

The most beautiful building in Plaza Mayor is the Town Hall.

Para mí la mejor vista de Salamanca es esta. Cruzando el Puente Romano sobre el río Tormes, se ve esta bonita vista de la catedral. Fijáos en este cielo tan fotogénico...

For me, this is the best view of Salamanca. Crossing the bridge over the river Tormes, you can see this beautiful view of the cathedral. Look, what a beautiful sky...

Aquí mami me llevó al Huerto de Calixto y Melibea, que según me contó ella eran los protagonistas de un libro llamado La Celestina. Aquí subida en el árbol y con la catedral de fondo, me imaginaba cómo se encontraba Melibea con su amado Calixto en este jardín. ¡¡ Ayyyyy!! (Suspiro). Yo también quiero un Calixto... ¿Habrá chicos Blythe perdidos por ahí en el mundo? Mami, investiga, porfi...

Mom took me to the orchard of Calixto and Melibea. According to her, they were the main characters of a book called La Celestina. Sitting on the tree and with the cathedral behind me, I was trying to imagine how Melibea would meet her beloved Calixto in that garden. Sigh!! I also want a Calixto for me... Will there be Blythe boys around the world? Mum, investigate for me please...

Como podéis deducir por la foto del famoso acueducto, la última excursión del viaje fue a Segovia.

As you can see from the picture of the famous aqueduct, the last place we went was Segovia.

Como soy una fan de las catedrales, no podía faltar una foto frente a la de Segovia...

As I am a fan of cathedrals, I had to appear on a picture in front of the one of Segovia...

Por supuesto, también fuimos a visitar el Alcázar. Yo me imaginaba historias de caballeros y princesas...

Of course, we also visited the Alcazar. I imagined stories of knights and princesses...

Imaginaba que era una princesa encerrada en esta torre, y que un apuesto caballero con armadura venía a rescatarme...

I imagined that I was a princess locked in that tower and that an armoured handsome knight would come to rescue me...

Esta es la iglesia de San Millán.

Y esto que véis es el Alcázar, visto desde el otro lado del río Eresma.
¿A que se me da bien lo de ser guía turística?

And what you see on the picture now is the Alcazar, seen from the opposite side of the river Edesma.
I am good at being a tourist guide, don't you think so?

Esta es la iglesia de la Vera Cruz, que mami se empeñó en ver. Tiene doce lados (planta
dodecagonal) y es antiquísima. Dicen que era una iglesia de los Templarios, mami leyó una novela en la que se encontraba un manuscrito templario en esta iglesia...
Un tanto oscura, rara y misteriosa sí es...

This is Vera Cruz church, Mum wanted to visit it. The church has got twelve sides and is very old. Legend has it that it was a church from the Templars. Mum read a novel where they had found a Templar manuscript in that church...

It's really a quite dark, strange and mysterious church...

Aproveché mi último día en Valladolid para volver a ver a mis amigos navideños de la Plaza Mayor. ¡Hasta la vista, Papá Noël! A ver si me tráes muchos regalos, que soy una chica buena...

During my last day in Valladolid, I went to see again my Christmas friends in the Plaza Mayor. Farewell Santa Claus! I hope that you bring me many presents, as I have been a good girl...
